5 Year Old Birthday Outfit

My sweet S.R. is turning 5 in just a few days.
She asked for a special dress for her fairy tea party (a Queen Clarion dress to be exact).
The dress has been made, and she squealed when she saw it...the reaction every mother wants when she's worked so hard to make her little girl happy:o)
When I was searching for the fabric for the fairy dress, I came across some fairy knit fabric in purples and pinks. S.R.'s two favorite colors. I was slightly hesitant about purchasing it because my last experience with knits was quite disastrous.
I will have to say, this little skirt was much easier than I expected:o)

The hopscotch skirt is now my new favorite skirt to make...I think I'll be making one for myself now:o) I followed a super easy tutorial, and you can find it over at iCandy handmade.

I can't wait for the celebration:o) It's going to be so much fun!! I just hope that the snow they are calling for will hold off until after our guests return home safely:o)
Have a great weekend, and I will see you back here next week with the details of the fairy tea party:o)

Front Entry Way

We have lived in our house for 3 years now, and this wall has always bothered me. When you enter our house, this is the wall you see.
There is a doorway to the right and a column just a few feet to the left.
Very un-welcoming.

For the past year I have had a picture of the kids hanging there and that was it.
I wanted a table and a lamp and just stuff to sit there, but there wasn't enough room with the column in the way.
After 3 years of brainstorming, I finally came up with a solution. Took me long enough, didn't it?
I have some cabinets in the attic that are really narrow. I picked them up at a yard sale for $5. They are real cherry, and beautiful, but absolutely non-functional. I think they were spice cabinets in their former existence??

I took one of the doors and turned it into a wall shelf that resembles a table. The door is super narrow, so it's the perfect depth and adds so much to this space. The legs, hardware and spray paint were purchases from Lowes, and the frames and sign were purchased from Hobby Lobby.
There isn't an outlet on this wall, so I can't plug a lamp in...I'll show you my solution for this problem in my next post:o)
Now I reeeeeally like my entry way.
It's a lot more inviting, don't you think?:o)

Snuggly Lap Quilt

Our weather has been awfully dreary here lately. Lots and lots of rain. Perfect weather for reading, board games, and snuggling.
As I was cleaning out my craft room, I ran across some quilt squares I had cut out a couple of years ago...yes, years:o)
I decided to make a quick quilt out of them...who knows why it took me this long!
The fabric for the backing was given to me, and how lucky was it that it matched my squares?
This quilt was meant to be:o)
It has become THE favorite blanket in the house...too bad it isn't big enough to fit all four of us under it.
However, it's perfect for a day like this, when it's cold and rainy outside.
I hope you all are staying warm and dry!

New Year, New List of Things to Do..

Happy New Year to you all. I realize I'm a week late, but better late than never, right?
For the past week and a half, I have been in purge mode. You wouldn't believe the amount of junk I have cleared out of closets and our attic. I still have a few areas I haven't hit yet.
I have been working on my craft room too, and I'm going to have some crafty bundles in my Etsy shop here in the next few days.

I have decided that my motto for 2013 is to SIMPLIFY.

The hubs is definitely on board:o) We are clearing out clutter, junk and debt.
One of our next DIY's will be to update the kids' bathroom. If you follow me on Facebook, I may have said that I was going to tackle that this past weekend...well, it didn't exactly happen:o) The supplies have been purchased though, so all we have to do is get the motivation to make it happen.

Another item on my list of things to do is to make S.R. a quilt for her bed. She LOVES purple, and has asked a couple of times if I would make her room purple. I'm sticking with the green, but will replace the pink with purple. A quilt, some new curtains, new lamp shades, and a new canopy will do the trick. Things that I can do over time. My goal is to get the quilt done before her birthday...which is the beginning of March. Daunting, I know!
These are the fabrics I chose. They are from Riley Blake and it's the Dress Up Days line. I'm really excited about this really cute fabric!
This is the one I fell in love with...isn't it adorable?!?!

This is the quilt that I will be fashioning out of the above fabrics....crazy I know. I'm sure my "crafty ADD" will be able to manage all of these scallops(NOT), but I'm going to go in with eyes wide shut;o) HA!

The quilt pattern is from this book and you can find it at Amazon.
Click here to purchase from Amazon
I am really excited about this quilt. I just have to be like the Little Engine That Could, and do it!!

Have a great Tuesday!!

2012 Highlights

As I have been looking back at everything I have crafted in 2012, it's amazing how one can forget how much can happen in a span of just 365 days. I am amazed by how much the kids have changed in just a year's time.
I have been blessed beyond measure this year.
I want to thank you all for following along on my little journey. I appreciate all the kind words and encouragement you give me. It's nice to know that people like what I do:o)

So I thought I would share my 12 favorite crafts from this year.
It was hard to choose, but I was able to narrow them down:o)

My first pick would be the dresser re-vamp I did for E. I was quite proud of this because it was the first piece of big furniture that I had worked on completely by myself.
The hubs was quite impressed:o)

I loved our family movie nights that we had this year. They started to spread out when school started, but the kids seemed to have so much fun with them:o)
They really had a ball with the Drive-In Movie Night.

The birthdays were a total blast this year. I always enjoy putting the kids parties together, and this year's themes were so much fun to work on.
S.R. made a sweet little Dorthy in her Wizard of Oz party.
My, how this little one has changed!

E's party was so much fun as well. I didn't dive into it like I normally do, only because I am totally not a Star Wars fan, but thankfully there were so many awesome ideas on the internet.
Love these sweet faces!!

I did a lot more sewing this year than I have in years past, and I love that my kids get excited about the things I make them. It hasn't always been that way unfortunately. I have finally figured out what they actually like, so that there isn't any disappointments on either end:o)
Here are a few of my favorites for S.R

This dress is my absolute favorite:o) The flower girl dress. She looked like a little princess!
We were stopped by so many people in church and at the grocery store a few weeks later saying how beautiful her dress was...I might have been a little proud;o)

Here are my sewn favorites for E.
This little ottoman was super simple to put together, and E absolutely loves it. He lugs it around all over the place to sit on it. Definitely a score for his mommy!

This little vest and bow tie were absolutely
adorable on him as well:o)

My biggest project of the year wasn't even in my own house. A very dear friend asked me to completely over haul her house and give it an updated look. I won't lie and say I loved every minute of it. It was exhausting, and with only one good hand during the process, there were times when I wanted to throw in the towel. But it turned out great and she loved it so much that she did the HGTV cry..you can't get a better response than that:o)
The before and afters are really something.

And the last of my favorites for 2012 would definitely have to be the "Famerican" Girl doll bed and bedding.
I wish you all could have seen how sweet S.R. was on Christmas morning when she saw the bed. I asked her if she new who made the bed. She said Santa..I told her that her Daddy had made it. She said,
"Wow! He did a really good job."
Such a sweet heart!

So those are my favorites for this year. I've got some big projects lined up for this next year and I can't wait to get started on them...just don't tell the hubs;o)
Have a great New Year. I'll be back here next week to share with you all a new dress for S.R. and a Tooth Fairy Monster I made for E(it's ugly and he loves it:o))
