Non-Candy Halloween Options for the Teal Pumpkin Project

Are you guys finished with your Halloween preparations?

We are still in the process of getting all of our ducks in a row.

I do have our non-candy treats squared away, fortunately.

I purchased all of these items from Amazon.

They were pretty inexpensive, and I hope they are a hit with the kiddos that come through our neighborhood.

Laser finger beams, sparkle rings, miniature turtle erasers, and sticky hands are what I will be giving out.

Since these are pretty small, I will probably be handing out something like Pirate Booty for the ones who are extra little (3 years old and under).

All that we have left to do is finish Sister's costume. She's decided she is going to be a zombie bride.

(insert eye roll)

I hate it. 

I wanted her to be something cutesy and non-evil, but that's not what she wants.

We have to make the costume because everything online was too gory. I hate zombies. I think all of you who love The Walking Dead are a bunch of W.E.I.R.D.O.S. ;-)

How is it possible to enjoy your nightmares come to life??

My boy is going to be a pumpkin goblin.

I'm just glad he wants to participate.

He usually wears a costume long enough for pictures and rips it off due to embarassment.

We'll see how it goes this year!

I will be going as Cinderella this year, and I cannot wait to wear my dress.

Last year I went as Snow White, and can I just say it is so much fun being a princess!

Do you know how precious those little girls were when they got to meet Snow White??

I'm hoping this year will be even better.

We're still working on a costume for hubby. I believe it will involve the purple velvet sombrero we were gifted for last year's dirty Santa. Ha!

Holiday Wreath-My Front Door

Just a short post today. 

I finally dove head first into a mesh ribbon wreath. It seems like they have been around for ages now, but I am always a little slow on hot trends...I have to make sure they're going to stick around before I jump on the bandwagon:o)

I am really excited about this wreath, and I loved how easy it was to put together. My "W" looks right at home in the middle:o)

My Home for the Holidays-Cute Hand Towel

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We(mostly the hubs) have been busy out in the yard moving dirt, bushes and mulch. It is looking so good in our backyard. I can't wait to show you how it looks:o)

I found a really cute hand towel a few weeks ago made by Mud Pie. The price was really good, but I knew it was something that I could make. I couldn't find their version online, but mine is pretty similar.

 The towel was made from an old shower curtain I found at a thrift store back during the summer. I also had the ribbon on hand. I didn't have enough to alternate the colors evenly, but I think it still turned out pretty cute:o)

 I just cut 28 strips of ribbon at 3" long. (I think the width of the ribbon is 3/4".) I started at the bottom row with seven strips of ribbon folded in half and stitched them to the towel..the next row 6..and so on. 

Just a little side note...if you plan to make this towel, make sure you put your ribbon on at an angle to make the tree form...I made the mistake of putting it on straight up and down and it was totally wrong:o)

A quick and easy...and very festive hand towel for our half bath.

Craft Room Clean Up and Holiday Decorating

Are you all getting into the holiday spirit yet? I am trying my very best not to skip over Thanksgiving:o) I started doing some fall crafts with the kids yesterday, and they loved it. Today we are going to work on something involving a turkey..not sure exactly what that will be, though:o)

Anyway, I have been wanting to clean out all of our closets for several weeks. Definitely BEFORE the holiday season arrived, but I haven't had the time to do it. I finally buckled down on Monday and cleaned 5 closets out..including my craft room/closet...

it's original intention was to be a closet, but there was so much space, that I decided to turn it into my craft room

It took me 4 hours to go through all of my crafty stuff. 3 garbage bags full of trash, and 2 garbage bags full of unwanted fabric later, I was finally pleased with what I had accomplished.

Now mind you, this is a small space with A LOT of stuff in it, so it doesn't look nearly as awesome to you as it does to me:o)

Everything is organized and has it's place. It would look a lot prettier if I had matching bins in all of the little cubby holes...that's a project for another day. But I LIKE it! Everything is within arms reach.

 The hubs and I put this little shelf together. It was given to me by a friend of the family. In it's previous state, it was pine colored with the back out...there were also some hearts cut out on the top. I removed the plank with the hearts, the hubs cut a piece of beadboard for me and attached it to the back...with a couple of coats of spray paint, I had a great shelf to put my paints on.

I have the shelf tucked away in the corner, to keep it out of sight from my little ones...there was a MAJOR incident involving red paint and the upstairs carpet of which I do not want to discuss as of right now..grr:o{

On to holiday talk..

The homemakers club is having their Holiday Bonanza this weekend. Each club is in charge of providing a center piece for the tables. Because our club is co-hosting the event, we had to provide 2.

I was given the task to create the center pieces for our club.

I wish that I could hold onto these. I really like how they turned out!

 It makes me what to start decorating for Christmas:o)

Speaking of holiday decorating...I have one tree up so far...I plan to start decorating it today. I have 7 trees in my house, and it takes forever to get them up... ridiculous, I know. But it's so much fun!!

Easter Decor

I cannot believe that Easter is at the end of April this year. We actually get to enjoy having out all the Easter decorations for a tad longer than usual.

 I love spring decorating. It brings life back into your home after the hum drum of winter.

I hope to be sharing lots of spring decorating with you this month. Here is a little something I made a few weeks ago....

I made this flower arrangement for my mother as a "get well" gift for her surgery. I wanted to give her something that she could enjoy for years to come.

 I fell in love with this little lamb and bunnies from Pier 1. I knew I had to use them somehow:o) The flowers were purchased from Hobby Lobby. 

This was such a fun arrangement to make. My mother loves most anything with spriggy things coming off of them, so it was perfect for her. 

She was very happy with it...or maybe it was the drugs she was on;o)

Christmas Ornament Week-Day 3

Today I have two ornaments to share with you. The first being super easy. 

This ornament is nothing more than a feather boa wrapped around a Styrofoam ball, with a little hot glue here and there. I had one feather boa on hand and purchased one more. I got them from Hobby Lobby and if you  use your 40% off coupon, you can get them pretty cheap. I made 4, and the main reason I wanted these was to use them as filler for the tree. They are nice and fluffy and fill a lot of space.

This next ornament was great in theory, but in practice....it was extremely painful. I burned my fingers so many times!! I had planned on making the twine go all the way to the bottom, but after the blisters left on 2 fingers occurred, I decided to just glitter the bottom. There will only be one of these ornaments hanging on my tree:o) 

I gotta hurry up and get that tree b/c the ornaments are starting to pile up in the office:o) The hubs isn't really thrilled about the prospect of owning 4 trees....oh well:o)

Christmas Ornament Week-Day 1

It has begun.....I have started decorating for Christmas. Crazy...I know. But I have my reasons. The main one being that I need to help my mother put hers up and she has only slightly less than I do:o) I have 3 trees, and I am about to get one more. I set up S.R.'s tree yesterday and it is so cute. I will share pics of it soon. She LURVES it;o) I put E's tree up as well, but his is lacking a key element....ornaments! Once I get the new tree, it will need ornaments as well. Ornaments can get expensive, so this year I am making them. 

Today's ornament is super easy, super fast, and most importantly, SUPER CHEAP. These frames came from the Dollar Tree.

I flipped them over and popped the backs off of them.

I went to the The Graphics Fairy, and searched the Christmas tab and found the pictures I wanted to print off. I copied and pasted into word and resized the pictures to fit the frames. Afterwards, I glued some twine on the back to hang the ornament.

Easy Peasy and cute to boot;o) I love these ornaments. I think they look a little fancy, but they are so inexpensive to make!

The rest of the week I will be sharing more ornaments that I have made, so stay tuned....I may share a tree or two by the end of the week;o)

Thanksgiving Center for Wreath

I hope that you all had a wonderful Halloween. We had a blast! The days leading up to that fabulous time were MISERABLE! We all had a nasty stomach bug. I thought I was DYING! Ya know, when you are sick, the house always goes to pieces, especially when mothers are sick. So I have been spending the past few days trying to get the house back in order. In the midst of doing that, I had to get a Thanksgiving center plate in the middle of the wreath. The Halloween one had to go:o)

I got some scrapbook paper that was more "fall-ish" this time. I found the turkey over at The Graphics Fairy. If you haven't been to her site....you need to. It is amazing all the FREE printables she has there. I used some Mod Podge on the feathers and glittered him up.

For the banner, I just used my sticky dots to hold the paper in place and cut the edges to make it look like ribbon. The hubs thought it was cut, but asked, "Who's "Hankfu"? Yeeeeeah....the 'T' and the 'L' kinda got a little squished...but you get the idea;o)

I just want all of you to know that I am really fighting the urge to do some Christmas decorating. I love decorating this time of year. I am really trying to stay focused on Thanksgiving though. 

I have 3 trees and reeeeeeally want one more for the living room. I could use one of the 3 in my living room, but they are the skinny trees and I want one with a little more girth to it:o) So since I am dead set on getting another tree, I will have to adorn it with fabulousness....I can't buy fabulousness(since I have to buy a tree), so I am making fabulousness....well at least I think so:o) I have been spending nap time these past few days making Christmas ornaments. I have been going THRU some hot glue sticks:o) 

I burnt the fool out of my fingers yesterday. Oh it was soo painful. I even got a little blister:o( I'll share the ornaments with you guys very soon. 

I had to do at least one Thanksgiving post though:o)

Jack-o-lanterns

These are the pumpkins we carved last weekend. We didn't go to a pumpkin patch and pick these out...we went the easy road and stopped by Fresh Market and grabbed their 3 for $10 deal....we're cheap, what can I say? We thought that the kids would enjoy getting to carve pumpkins, but as soon as the hubs pulled the top off the first pumpkin, and we heard a unanimous "EWWW", we knew that we would be doing this ALONE. Which was fine b/c we got to carve some really cool pumpkins, if I do say so myself:o)

We were trying to carve pumpkins of the characters that the kids would be dressing as for Halloween, but we couldn't find a template for Jessie, so these were the templates we chose. I carved the Buzz pumpkin... with a dull knife. 

He turned out pretty good for not having good tools. Hubs, the engineer, headed to the garage, grabbed his safety glasses and his Drimmel tool, and began to work. He finished the other two pumpkins before I got mine done. Ya'll, that's the way to go when carving pumpkins:o)

Didn't he do a FAB job? I think so:o)

Yesterday we spent the day at home b/c E had a tummy bug. He seems to be fine now, and hasn't had any "episodes" since before lunch. Hoping it was one of those mysterious 12 hour bugs...We did our best to keep S.R. away from him...we really don't want any sickness on Halloween. The kids are really pumped about it this year:o)
